The first thing we did was think about questions we wanted answering on light. Following this we thought about the types of investigations that would have to be carried out to answer our questions. We found lots of them could be answered using secondary sources (talking to experts, using books or using the internet). I have set the children a challenge to find some of the answers in their own time and am looking forward to seeing what they find.
This week we began our new topic all about light. After this, we carried out a short investigation trying to prove that light appears to travel in straight lines. The children were given the equipment they needed and had to work out what they could do. I was impressed with how quickly they were able to work out how to use the equipment to show light travels in straight lines. They then wrote about what they did in their books and explained what this showed. After exploring how we see things, we then started to look at mirrors. The children started by using them to reflect and write messages before they worked in small groups to see if they could get light rays to reflect off a mirror to change the direction of them. A great start to our new topic!
